1900 - Will (Lonan)

I Thomas Mylroi of Fairmount, Laxey in the parish of Lonan, joiner, being of sound mind, memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner following, hereby revoking and cancelling all wills heretofore made by me.

First I leave, devise and bequeath to my wife Priscilla Mylroi the whole of my real and personal estate of whatsoever nature or description as her own absolutely.

I also hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said wife Priscilla Mylroi sole executrix of this my last will and testament and have hereunto subscribed my name this the twenty-ninth day of March in the year nineteen hundred (1900). Thomas Mylroi

At a District probate session held at Douglas on the 9th May 1900 The annexed writing dated the 29th day of March 1900 having been proved to be the last will and testament of Thomas Mylroi late of Fair Mount, Laxey in the parish of Lonan, joiner, deceased who died in the 13th day of April 1900 Priscilla Mylroi of Fair Mount aforesaid, widow, the relict of the testator, the executrix therein named is sworn well and truly to fulfill and execute the same and to administer the personal estate and effects of the deceased according to law. ……………. a judge of the said Court

NOTES

  1. Laxey Glen- Glen Road
  2. Thomas was the older surviving son of John Mylroi and Sarah Ball. He was born 1855 in Manchester but returned with his parents to Lonan as a child
  3. His father was the only surviving son of Daniel Mylroie, a bootmaker and very successful businessman in Laxey
  4. Thomas married Priscilla Smailes in 1880. There were no children
  5. Like his father John and brother Benjamin, Thomas was a builder/joiner
  6. Thomas, his father, and grandfather, all died within months of each other
    • Daniel 29th December 1899 aged 94
    • John 1st January 1900 aged 69
    • Thomas 13th April 1900 aged 45
  7. Brother Benjamin and his young sons were the last of this Mylroi line that began in the 1600s with the birth of David
  8. Prior to his death, Thomas & Priscilla had relocated to Douglas. After his death, Priscilla worked as a housekeeper there
